Sally Sprocket and Piston PeteCommentsyes! oh and this might seem like a interview but here I go!
1) You've been on deviantart for a long time....10 years in fact! How much do you think you have improved over the decade? (sorry If im making you sound old 2) Have you been drawing comics from the start and was it something you wanted to do? 3) How do you come up with ideas for your comics? do you worry about originality and whether it looks good or not? 4) How long does each page usually take to do? 5) Is making a living from making comics a good idea? 6) Whats the most important thing you think a comic should have or do? 7) I am currently making a comic of my own...though its based on a game can you give me your thoughts on it? [link] 8) Last question, I really want to make a name for myself but is it better to just keep on focusing on my comics and wait for it to slowly attract fans?(that is, 'if' it can) 1) That's a tricky one.
2) I started drawing 'comic-like' stuff as a little kid (each page was a panel and then I stapled them all together XD) but I didn't get back into comics until 2005 and didn't start selling any until 2009. 3) Some of my best ideas (or fragments of ideas) come from dreams. Others come from hours of planning and refining. As far as originality and looking good ......yeah, I do. I know I shouldn't and my fellow artists tell me, 'even if you're doing something that's been done, just do it better!' That in itself gives the work worth. 4) Hahaha... the earlier pages took about 6 hours. The current pages take 3 days. 5) Short answer, no. Long answer, depends on what you plan to do with it. 6) Ooo, that's a tough one. As far as what it should do, I think a comic should definitely make a point. Like one, good solid point that everyone can think about. (the alternative is a comic that's more random and makes many small points). As far as what it should have, lots of great art! ;D That is, something you really commit some effort to. 7) I like how you frame your shots; the transitions from scene to scene are nice too. You might want to ease back on the black lines though; too many heavy black lines causes the page to feel dark and moody. If you ever look at official Mega Man art, they're always including highlights in key areas, which also help to brighten the overall mood. 8) It's a balance of both, really. I think 80% of it is just hard work + discipline, and then 20% is having a social presence and letting people know a little about you while you continually update your comic. (I've found that saying absolutely nothing hurts even the most talented artists). One thing people appreciate is an artist who can update regularly (like once a week, at a set time preferably), keep getting better at their craft, and is willing to appreciate them back. phew~! hope that covers it! Thank you for answering all my questions, I really appreciate it from someone as brilliant as yourself~!
I'll continue watching you(aha creepy) and I wish you the best! p.s talk again in another 10 years? ahaha wow!
Just a quick browse from your page and it is absolutely amazing! hope my page can one day be as great as yours... and um..can I ask you a few questions about making comics or can you give me advice (I am a amateur at making comics..) T_T I've read it all. Finally.
Backgrounds are really something. You did a very good job at making them! the whole comic is very enjoyable to view... and I want to see more! Characters are funny, Sally is a sweety (and I wonder what had happened to her before Pete found her... but I know you won't answer Good luck with the next pages, I'll be waiting for them! Ffff, thanks for getting through it somehow!
Guess you know now why I was so hooked on Spybeat Extra the minute I saw it. XD; Well yeah, I think you got the main couple of points of the story(!) I wish DA had a function to fave whole folders.
Now I have to fave all pages. I really love it. |
