bracers: construction 01 by 47ness bracers: construction 01 by 47ness
I'm just going to quickly go through these steps just as a quick reference guide for those interested:

Task:
Building a pair of bracers for my wrists and another pair for my ankles; the idea is they have to LOOK heavy and feel solid while being easy to put on and take off.

Panel 1:
I began by cutting blue foam into the desired shapes (the hexagon ones are the bracers, the crescent pieces are for another part of the cosplay).

Panel 2:
After drilling and sanding out the holes in the foam and getting the ideal dimensions, I cut them in half and sanded down the fresh edges some more. I used epoxy to glue the pieces of plywood onto each of the edges.

Panel 3:
Using the laser cutter, I made these "lids" out of 1/8" masonite and used double-sided tape to hold all the halves back together.

..........um.......... ^^;

::is attending a fairly top-of-the-line art & design college:: We're... pretty well funded in terms of facilities (which of course means everyone practically flushes money down the drain to get in ^^; ^^; )

But yeah, masonite is basically sawdust that's been squished and glued back together into a hard board material. Epoxy is a super-DUPER-glue that requires two parts to be mixed together before it can activate its bonding ability. And a laser cutter is ...well, a laser cutter. XD; You place a flat material on the tray, close the lid, and the machine will run its laser across- cutting out the image file you drew on the computer.
