The fourth step (base colors) I kept on a separate layer underneath the main drawing; makes it easy to select and reselect stuff like the turrets and roof panels.
Thanks for posting this up- seeing the process is important for me. I can see how getting the sketches right first is so key. I may have to download Sketchup myself, and see what I can do with it to help get structure correct.
The linework is also really interesting- and gives me a lot to think about. There's a lot of detail that's all kept in a reasonable sense of order in this picture.
Sure~ although there's plenty of other ways to do it (I just like having some kind of 3-D model present so I can know exactly which camera angle will sell best, but then I still have to draw/erase a lot of the lines.)
