PURE STEAM - Steam Tank by 47ness PURE STEAM - Steam Tank by 47ness
More vehicle commission work for Pure Steam...! The beta is out, btw! Check the link for additional info. :D

No 3-D modeling for this beast; mostly eyeballed it with mechanical pencil and then a ton of Photoshop hours. Ķ3

(one more vehicle to draw; it should be an especially crazy one...!) ;D

Always fascinating those Steampunk designs ^^ The guns positions reminds me lots the casemates and turrets from the battleships of the late 1890īs =D

Hehe, glad you think so~! The tank operates in an alternate 1890s-1910s world...

Aw, so thatīs it! ;)
Just a curiosity: I know is maybe push too much the technology, but did you think in possible space travel too in your Steampunk universe?

I'm not sure if space travel would happen in Pure Steam™ (it would depend on my clients' wishes)

As far as space travel in my comic; maybe?? A friend of mine said she had a dream once about Sally and Pete going into space and were met with danger, so now I'm all interested in the idea. :XD:

Ahn okies! ^^

And yeah =D I asked this also because I am taking a look in sites with free books (like Internet Archive and Gutemberg project) and I am finding many scienci fiction books written in the late XIX and early XX centuries about space travel and similar issues, and is quite fascinating, as they show space travel in that times, not as in a far future. In almost all them, they use anti-gravity as the transport device.

Electromagnetism was all the rage then, so perhaps it was about creating a charge that repelled us (or hopefully our capsule!) away... ;P

Actually this was one of the "formulas" proposed for spaceships. Use magnetism to levitate cigar-shaped vessels out the planet.

That's a really impressive piece of work. I really like the textures. It definitely looks strong, especially with no 3D involved (which wouldn't be a detriment either way; it's all about getting the final product you're after).

Hehe thank you.

I'd rather pass my design on to a 3D modeler to do their magic. ;)

Fantastic work! Kinda sad people are expecting 3D modeling for work like this these days. People expect shortcuts vs. doing everything. Great textures too by the way. :)

Thank ya!
Well, it's a mixed bag? A 3D model grants you a near infinite choice of angles (much to the delight of clients.. Ķ3), but yeah- in my eye 3-D can feel cheap, at times excessive, and it takes many dips into the Uncanny Valley- no matter how hard people strive for that holy grail.

3-D modeling is certainly a nice skill to have in the tool belt, but I wouldn't show it off as my primary talent dun' wanna be pigeonholed into modeling other people's concepts! XD;

It is a mixed bag. I don't want to be pigeon holed either. Somethings are better in 3D and other drawn by hand. If you know what you want drawing can be the faster way to go because you don't have to worry about creating the other side. :)

Plus you can do just about any style you want! :>

With 3-D there are real-world concerns like maintaining an object's cohesion (as an example, I'm finding it harder and harder to tell apart all the 3-D human characters in Pixar, Dreamworks, Blue Sky and Sony. You could literally swap human characters from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Planet 51, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Ratatouille and, while you'd know who was who, they'd still *look* like they could belong in each others world.) :o

Not as likely in 2-D films from different studios!

That's right... I feel like 3D and VFX has become standardized because they are focusing on detail and realism. How real and life-like can we get everything? I do miss visual stylization that comes with 2D art and animation. A lot of the times converting 2D characters to 3D just doesn't work, it looses its special charm.

Thankfully it's still an industry standard to do all preproduction art in 2-D (we have the advantage of speed on our side...!) ;)

Another great design- and nice work on the structure! Getting the perspective right must have been a challenge, but you've pulled it off well. The rear turrets have a really unique look, but the sponson gun is really something. It just works so well with the whole design.
